Desperate Times
STATESVILLE, North Carolina-
Although scary for everyone involved, armed robberies are not all that uncommon. Typically, an armed robber decides to take on a bank because that’s usually where the most cold hard cash can be found. But other times robbers will take on a liquor store or as in this case, Walmart…..why not?…..after all, I’m pretty sure Walmart has been known to have a few dollars on hand.
It was a Sunday evening. The robber entered the garden center of the Walmart wearing a disguise, where he put a gun to an employee’s head and demanded money from the register. Once he received his take, he made his way to his car and fired off a victory shot into the air. Police were called and advised which direction he went. Soon after, they caught up with bad guy and after a short standoff arrested 83-year-old George Plane Jr.
You’re typical armed robber is not usually 83-years-old. And on average that is actually considered quite old to commit an armed robbery. But as you can see from the mugshot above, George Plane Jr. does not appear to be that old and police were quite surprised by it too. Apparently, Georgie was arrested wearing tan khaki pants and a blue shirt, the exact shirt that Walmart employees wear. George Plane Jr. wasn’t a wanna-be Walmart soldier, nor was he a disgruntled formal soldier……..up until five before the robbery, Plane was the door greeter at the store he robbed…….I suppose $8 an hour wasn’t paying the bills.
The moral of the story: Age aside, apparently desperate times call for desperate measures.
