Baboon Busters

baboon bustersFLORISSANT, Missouri-

For the most part, baboons are smaller than humans and definitely not as smart (as most humans). But anyone who knows anything about baboons knows that they can be extremely mean, aggressive, quick, and pound for pound are one of the strongest creatures on Earth. And that’s not even taking into consideration its deadly teeth and bite. Needless to say, messing with any baboon is never a smart idea.

So imagine minding your own business and walking into your own backyard and seeing the terrifying sight of a baboon sitting there looking at you. It’s enough to give anyone the adrenaline rush from hell. A 14-year-old Missouri girl snapped a picture of a nasty looking baboon she found in her backyard. She then showed her mother, who alerted city officials and police that there was an elusive baboon on the loose.

Police in the St. Louis suburb took the scare very seriously. They immediately locked down an elementary school and brought in six extra police officers to help to control the situation while looking for the animal. One woman in the neighborhood said she owned a monkey and thought she would have an upper-hand in finding and securing it by spreading out potato chips and making (what she thought were) baboon noises. Another woman who also claimed to have a monkey walked around carrying a net, thinking she could catch the beast.

Eventually, the picture of her mystery baboon, was also found on the internet. The young lady had used her cell phone to snap the picture off the computer monitor……she admitted fabricating the whole story, but did not elaborate as to why. Later her family went on record and stated that the baboon in the picture was not the baboon in question, but that there really was one on the loose in the city (uh huh, sure there was). Needless to say, no baboon was ever found, it must have found his way back to the zoo on its own.

The moral of the story: Obviously, don’t cry baboon and say you saw a baboon in your backyard……..but more so, never fool yourself into believing that you can actually catch a real baboon in a (butterfly) net.
