Smarter Than The Average Dog

Smarter than your average dogMACUNGIE, Pennsylvania-

Is there any doubt who man’s best friend really is? The saying is cliche, but if you really think about it, it’s true. Dogs really are the most loyal counterparts anyone could ever ask for, and they never pass judgment on their owners in any way. All they ask is that you feed them, shelter them, and love them. Do those three things and nothing else really matters to them.

Unfortunately, humans as a whole, take advantage of our little friends more often than we should. In many cases we don’t appreciate our dogs like we should and it’s not until they are gone that we realize how much we love them. Speaking from experience, recently my family nearly lost our family dog to pneumonia but after a slightly extended vet stay, we are glad he made it through his illness.

Too often, human negligence leads to loosing our best friends. One of the most common issues humans have in relation to their dogs is carelessly leaving them in hot cars while they go about their busy days. One woman took her Chocolate Labrador, Max out with her to run some errands. When she returned home on a 90 degree plus day she hurried to empty her car and was going to return for Max, but she inadvertently forgot about him. An hour passed and Max rightfully got a little uncomfortable in the locked car with no ventilation.

Here’s where the sad story usually begins, but not in this case, because Max was smarter than your average pooch. When Max realized he was in trouble and needed to get out of the car, but didn’t have the means to make it happen himself, the smart dog improvised…..he got in the driver’s seat and honked the horn, and continued to do so until his owner heard the ruckus and went outside to investigate, and found Max panting heavily. She immediately took Max out of the car, gave him cold water and covered him with cold towels, then rushed him to the vet.

Max and his owner were lucky as Max did not suffer any serious damage. But in many cases this sort of story does not have a happy ending.

The moral of the story: It’s obvious……never ever leave your pooch in a hot car. Use common sense.
