Damn Oil Leak
RIDGE MANOR, Florida-
One Sunday evening, 43-year-old Christopher Bishop, suspected his Ford F-150 pickup truck had an oil leak. Luckily for Chris, he was fairly competent with mechanical stuff, so an oil leak wouldn’t be too big of a deal. Chris put his car in neutral, jumped out, and crawled under the truck to inspect for any leaks. As Chris tried to diagnose his car problems, he unknowingly left the door open for another, and possibly more serious, problem for himself.
Chris’ bulldog, Tassey, jumped into the truck through the open door and somehow knocked the car into gear, causing it to roll over the left side of Chris’ body. Chris managed to get up and stop the car, then make it into his house. After several hours of severe pain, Chris finally called for help and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was seen for non-life-threatening injuries.
And by God, Chris, I am so glad you didn’t get seriously hurt……. StrangeRush.com never wishes pain nor death upon anyone. But since you are apparently going to make a complete recovery, Chris, I have to ask…..did you learn anything from your dog? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that just about any grandmother out there, who doesn’t know a darn thing about cars, would tell you the first rule of checking your car for leaks is to make sure you put the damn thing in PARK. Everyone knows that if your car is in neutral, and on the slightest grade, it’s gonna roll, it’s simple physics……and it doesn’t take much. And when crawling under there, with your one and only physical body, you might as well put the emergency brake on too, just to be on the safe side. You never know when your dog will jump in and make the damn thing run you over.
So, Chris, consider yourself extremely lucky. Not everyone gets the once in a lifetime opportunity to get run over by their very own two ton vehicle, and live to tell about it.
The moral of the story: Park, Park, Park……always put your car in Park. It’s there for a reason.
